When the Star Wars movies were finally put out on DVD I was more than a little pissed off that Lucas decided to only issue the digitally remastered versions. Well in this on the official Star War site they announced that Lucas is putting out the good stuff in September.

In response to overwhelming demand, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release attractively priced individual two-disc releases of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Each release includes the 2004 digitally remastered version of the movie and, as bonus material, the theatrical edition of the film.

This release will only be available for a limited time: from September 12th to December 31st. International release will follow on or about the same day. Each original theatrical version will feature Dolby 2.0 Surround sound, close-captioning, and subtitles in English, French and Spanish for their U.S. release. International sound and subtitling vary by territory.

They don't mention a price of course. The USA Today does.

Their wishes will be granted Sept. 12 when Fox releases new two-disc DVDs ($30 each) of Star Wars (since retitled as Episode IV: A New Hope), The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi that include the films as they first appeared in theaters, along with the new, restored versions (now available in the four-disc $70 Star Wars Trilogy).

These DVDs as stated above will have both old and new versions of the flicks. So let me ask you just how many goddamn times do I have to buy the original trilogy? I have the set of vhs when it was first put out. I have the cool boxed set with the widescreen versions. I have the vhs set of the special edition movies. And finally I have the DVD set that was put out in 2004.

I just paid 70 bucks in 2004. And now I have to shell out 90 more dollars to buy shit I already own. And as much as I bitch you can bet your ass I'll be picking these up when they come out. It's just the idea of it. That fat fuck Lucas could have just done this in 2004. Beat that dead horse motherfucker. Fucking guy doesn't look like he's all that needy.

George Lucas

I guess some people will never have enough money. What can you do?

Star Wars Empire at War 12:36 am-Turk

Imagine a good Star Wars rts for a moment. Imagine a rts with 3d accelerated graphics that didn’t have fucked up camera control and many other problems. Push back the bad memories of that other one and pretend that this time it will be different. Star Wars Empire at War will be different. The demo is out right now and you can get it at the usual places.

One Two
Three Four
Five Six

The game is exactly what you would expect. No tricky camera angles and 360 degrees of freedom in the space battles. Which is not a bad thing at all. This is a real time strategy game that has a pedigree that is hard to over look. Empire at War is being made for LucasArts by a developer called Petroglyph. Take a look at the companies about us page to get an idea of what I’m talking about.

The demo lets you try out the set of tutorials and a sort of skirmish mode. You will want to go through the tutorials just to get used to the games way of doing things. The full game will also come with some sort of campaign when it ships in February. It looks good and plays good. It is quite a beast if you try to run everything on high and you don’t have an up to date system. But it does allow you to tweak quite a bit of the details so you can get the game to run good even on the older systems. The readme.txt has all of the details if your interested in the actual system requirements.

So I’ve been playing Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords (developed by Obsidian Entertainment) on the Xbox these last few days. It’s not what I would call a sequel, it’s more like a expansion pack really. Not that it isn’t a good game. It’s just more of the same with some new feats/force powers/prestige classes thrown in with a new story. You can sway your party members to your side of the force, which opens up a whole new angle on the game. But it loses some of the immersion that I loved about the first KOTOR.

I’ve only made it to the second planet so far and I’ve yet to feel any of the Jedi Guilt that I experienced in the first game. You know the stuff I’m talking about, those conversations with Bastila where she nags the shit out of you for doing a bad dead. I miss that. And sure it was probably all scripted sequences in the first one. I just find myself missing that here in this second game. I just don’t feel like my party members care if I am good or bad in this one. I don’t notice them questioning me if I’m bad.

And I’ve done my fair share of bad deeds in KOTOR:TSL. My favorite evil moment so far was using the Jedi Mind Trick to force two thugs in Nar Shaddaa to give me their money and then jump off a ledge so they plummeted to their deaths. The lack of nagging is making it so much easier for me to be evil. I find it refreshing. I’m looking forward to embracing the Dark Side like the way a fat guys craves candy. And I don’t consider myself evil really. It’s just that I relish the fact I can do the evil things I would like to do in real life but can’t because of the those pesky laws we have in these kinds of games.

There is a down side to playing this game. It’s cut into my World of Warcraft play time even more than the 500 issues of the Amazing Spider-Man comic did. And don’t get me wrong. I have no intention of quiting WoW. I’m just taking a minor break is all. Anyway this time away from WoW insures all my friends in the guild will be a higher level than me and thats the we it should be.

Well I bought the pc version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (SW:KOTOR for short) and I admit I was nervous when I first ran the game. System Requirements are close to what I have, but I was worried because sometimes I think the required system requirements are a fairy tale that the developers invent to get one to buy a game. I’m happy to say in the thirty or so minutes I played the pc version of KOTOR I had no problems at all. I got all the graphical options on high and my screen resolution is 1024×768. After I play some more I’ll put up some screens shots.

The Clone Wars have begun! Hurray! Man I just love Star Wars, even the bad movies. This cartoon is just awesome. Granted it’s a little disappointing that each episode is really short. The first one only runs for 3 minutes and 44 seconds. Here are eight screen caps from the first episode:

One Two
Three Four
Five Six
Seven Eight

Ten of these little shorts run this month, then another ten in spring of 2004. You can watch them on the Cartoon Channel or watch them on-line at the Clone Wars website.

So last year there was a game called Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, which if you can’t tell is a game set in the Star Wars universe. It was pretty good and got me my Star Wars Geek fix. Well now a sequel is on the way to stores and a demo is out for it. The game is called Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and it improves on last years game in a few areas.

The demo weighs in at a 187mb’s and can be downloaded from a number of sites. Head over to this Blue’s News page for a listing of mirrors.

One Two
Three Four
Five Six
Seven Eight

Graphics more or less are the same as in the last game. You can check out a few screenshots from it here. The biggest addition to the game is how you can tweak your in game character. You can pick different head, torso, and leg models so your guy in game looks sorta unique. You can also choose different saber hilts and whether you use a single saber or duel wielding two sabers. You can also use a double bladed saber if you want to be like Darth Maul.
